Having Trouble Registering SIMS on the Network

Support,

I received my Aeris Neo SIMS a couple weeks ago and am now trying to activate and use them.  However, I am running into some problems.  I have tried to provision 3 SIMs.  Two landed in a Bill State and one is still in a Provision State.   The do not seem to have any connectivity to the GSM network.

The most important of these and probably the easiest to troubleshoot is the one named Modem.  I will detail this configuration and maybe you will see something that I have not done correctly.

The Modem is a WaveCom Q2303A GSM modem connected by USB to a Windows 10 machine on COM 3.  I can send AT commands to the modem and communicate to the SIM, so I am confident the modem is powered on and the SIM is inserted correctly.  I am located in Dallas area will strong cell signals.

I will summarize some of the AT commands below:

Just as a follow up to further investigation ... I noticed the AT+CIMI reutrned above is 204043396748172. 204-04 is Vodafone out of the Netherlands. Is that correct for a US based SIM?

Hi Mark,

I apologize that we missed this inquiry. The GSM Global SIMs have an IMSI - International Mobile Subscriber identity associated with them. Our carrier partner for NEO services is with T-Mobile USA. The services are provided within the U.S. only. The 3 SIM are not registered and appear that there is no network service. If these are located outside the U.S. that may explain why there is no coverage. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Kind regards,
NEO Support Team

Support,

I appreciate you being patient. I am making progress.

For others following. My first issue was that my modem was the wrong frequency. I am in the US and it was incompatible. I replaced teh modem and there was a hardware error.

Now, I am connected to the network, I have sent a few SMS messages using the following commands:

at+cmgs="+1817308xxxx"
> Test
+CMGS: 3

and receive a good return. Me Aeris account also says I sent those messages.

However, my phone never received the messages.

What should I look at to see if I am sending correctly?

at+cops=?
+COPS: (2,"T-Mobile","T-Mobile","310260")

at+csca?
+CSCA: "+31654094xxxx,145

at+cscs?
+CSCS: "PCCP437"
(I also set cscs="GSM" and tried.)

Is there anything strange with what you see?

What else should I look at?

I noticed the byte length below is '0'.
Technology Identifier Traffic type Event type Timestamp IP address To device (Bytes) From device (Bytes) Duration (Seconds) Network location info SMS status

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Mark,

The SIM has registered on the network on March 7, 2017 and services are provided by the T-Mobile carrier. SMS_MO was successful but the content can not be viewed on the handset for security reasons. The device has not established a data session. The APN on the portal is displayed: neo.iot.net. Can you reassure that the device has been programmed with the correct APN.

Kind regards,

Hi Mark,

The 'Delivered' message means that the SMS has been delivered to our AerFrame server. This message can be extracted using APIs. Please see our documentation on Sending and receiving SMS with AerFrame API:

http://neo.aeris.com/support/accessing-the-aeris-network/send-receive-sms-api/

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Piotr
