NEO LTE Block SMS Issue

When I check the Block SMS under Traffic Policy, my device loses the ability to connect / register on the aeris network.

I spent around 8 hours trying to figure out why my device stop registering and was finally able to determine that if the "Block SMS" option is checked, my device will not register.  This is repeatable on the same device and on a second device that I had to setup for troubleshooting.

How can I Block SMS traffic and still connect and use Data services?

Hello Royce,

It is important to understand that the packet data and RF functionalities are separate pieces of our services. Part of the behavior you have encountered (BLOCK SMS , device no longer registers ) is normal, What would not be normal is for the device to lose the ability to complete data connectivity.

Additional information on product functionality may be found within our online documentation (

Should you be encountering a device which is unable to establish a data session issue please include the lat 4 to 6 digits of a device identifier so we can look into the issue further.
Best Regards,
Neo Support

I'm thinking there is an issue.  We have around 100 CDMA devices on the Aeris side.  We've never had a problem with Block SMS causing any access issues.

Device Profile ID:      AER0000009095066
ICCID:                       xxxxx949320
Modem:                     Multitech MTSMC-MAT1  (i.e. LTE M1)

With BLOCK SMS UNCHECKED:      +COPS:  0,0,"AT&T",8
                               +CGREG: 2,1,"2C28","B2A6412",8,1C
#SGACT=1,1 is able to establish a connection and device will communicate

With BLOCK SMS CHECKED:        +COPS:  0
                               +CGREG: 2,3
#SGACT=1,1 is unable to establish a data session and device will not communicate

The above details are pulled from the same device with the only change being Block SMS being checked / unchecked.

So far, this behavior has been 100% repeatable by checking or unchecking block SMS.

I can provide a more details of successful and unsuccessful communication attempts if needed.

I looked through the link you sent, but I saw nothing specific regarding this issue.
