SIMCOM SIM800L - Unable to establish connection

We are doing initial TCP testing with a SIMCOM SIM800L. Per the SIMCOM documentation, the command sequence to establish a connection is as follows:
AT+CSQ
verify signal level (we see >=18)

AT+CREG?
we see 0,5, registered/roaming

AT+CGATT?
responds 1 - attached

AT+CSTT="neo.iot.net"
specifies access point name, no uid/passwd, responds OK

AT+CIICR
bring up connection. SIMCOM documentation says this can take up to 85 seconds. We see no response at all (either OK or ERROR) after many minutes

What should we check next?

Can you provide the ICCID you are attempting to get connected? We would like to verify our logs and device provisioning on our side.

Lawrence,

In reviewing our logs I observe the device registering on the cellular network updating the location and GPRS although the device is not initiating the start session. Can you force your device to initiate a data session?

I'm selecting commands based on the manufacturer's documentation, and don't see anything there that is obviously the command to force a a data session to start. Is there a common AT command for this that I might try?

If I issue the AT+CIPSTART... command without first issuing the AT+CIICR, I get an error response.

Hi Lawrence,

Per our engineer APN is not configure in the device. Please use following command to configure

AT+CGDCONT=1,”IP”,”neo.iot.net”

It did not. But we have been advised by SIMCOM that the radio we are using may be the wrong one for this geographical area. I will investigate his before asking for any more assistance
